Patricia, welcome to the niikiis blog:

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring as we define it at Barcelona Mentoring is a conversational process by which one person, in the role of mentor, helps another, in the role of mentee, to become aware of their capabilities and to learn the mechanisms by which they can transform and develop (on their own) their potential into talent.

There are different types of mentoring. When this process is carried out in a structured way and following a specific methodology, we speak of formal mentoring with multiple benefits.

What benefits does it bring to people?

  • Time for oneself
  • Self-awareness
  • Definition of goals and objectives
  • Definition of goals and objectives
  • Competence development and knowledge acquisition
  • Increased potential
  • Learning through experience

What benefits does it bring to the company?

  • Recognition of employees
  • Listen to the team
  • Acceleration of the personal and professional development process
  • Improving the management of intangibles such as enthusiasm, motivation, enthusiasm, optimism, confidence and commitment.
  • Increased engagement
  • Impact on KPIs
  • Development of skills and knowledge

What would the structure of a programme look like?

The customised design of the mentoring programme will cover all important aspects of the mentoring programme such as the goals and objectives (what for), the format and who will be involved.

The steps to create and develop a programme could be as follows:

  1. Communication of the launch of this programme
  2. Training and initial presentation to participants
  3. Mentor & mentee pairing
  4. Development of guides and resources
  5. Programme monitoring
  6. Evaluation
  7. Communication of closure

In 2021, how influential and important do you think values and purpose are in organisations in general?

Organisations are made up of people and they are the fundamental pillar. It is vitally important to humanise organisations and work on the company's purpose, mission and values. They must be more than a poster hanging in the office of any organisation and be part of the roadmap guiding day-to-day decisions.
Thank you very much, Patricia!
